ICMHP Chair Transition Announcement
December 8, 2020
Dear friends and colleagues,
Today we announce a transition in leadership for the Illinois Children’s Mental Health Partnership. After serving as Chair for nearly four years, Gene Griffin, JD, PhD has stepped down from this role. Dr. Griffin has served on the Partnership in several capacities since we were created in 2003. He has been instrumental in our work to improve the lives of children and families across Illinois and successfully led ICMHP through a significant period of transition. Although he will be greatly missed, we wish him all the best in this next chapter and look forward to continued collaboration!
It is with our distinct honor to present our Interim Chair, Sameer Vohra, MD, JD, MA, FAAP. Dr. Vohra is the Founding Chair of Southern Illinois University School of Medicine’s (SIU SOM) Department of Population Science and Policy, a social mission focused research and policy academic department aiming to improve health outcomes in central and southern Illinois. A general pediatrician, Dr. Vohra is also an Associate Professor of Pediatrics, Medical Humanities, and Law.
Dr. Vohra brings extensive experience and leadership in state and national policy formation to his new role with ICMHP. He has served on several national committees, including for the Association of American Medical Colleges and the American Medical Association as well as on the Board of Trustees for the Illinois State Medical Society and Chicago Medical Society. In addition to his previous role as an appointed member of ICMHP, he also serves on the State Board of Health, Medicaid Advisory Committee, the Governor’s Rural Affairs Council, and the Illinois COVID-19 Response Fund Steering Committee.
We are thrilled to welcome Dr. Vohra to this new role with ICMHP. As the state continues to move towards integrated care, his expertise in pediatrics, law, and policy, as well as in rural health, are ideal for us as we work to improve the well-being of Illinois children and families. Please join us in welcoming him!
Amanda M. Walsh, JD, LLM, MSW
