The Early Childhood Committee (ECC) envisions a strong early childhood component within a comprehensive, coordinated children’s mental health system. The ECC promotes evidence-based mental health interventions that support positive social emotional development and prevent social emotional problems for children from birth to age five. The ECC has been active since 2000, pre-dating the formation of ICMHP. Members meet quarterly to stay informed on ECC Work Group activities, advocacy updates, and innovative mental health practices or programs within the early child hood field.

Current Activities:

  • Overseeing Reflective Learning Groups
  • Overseeing the ICMHP Early Childhood Mental Health Consultation Project, the Healthy Families Illinois/Parents Too Soon Mental Health Consultation Project, and the Maternal, Infant, and Early Childhood Home Visiting (MIECHV) Consultation Project
  • Working with the ICMHP Advocacy Committee to create practice and policy recommendations around early childhood
  • Supporting the Infant and Early Childhood Mental Health Credential, administered by the Illinois Association for Infant Mental Health
  • Consolidating and prioritizing research around early childhood mental health
  • Developing a reflective practice toolkit
